I especially liked that he advised us what to look out for on the test, e.g. watch for “NOT” and any adjectives like “architectural” that precede verbiage. Nature and origin of testimonials:

The testimonials shown on this site are opinions on the performance of our instructor (Doug Rinker) and the effectiveness of his instructional approach in various courses for TOGAF 9 “Certified” certification prep training. All testimonials were submitted voluntarily, and the authors received no compensation of any kind for their statements. All testimonials are from individuals that attended courses that were similar in content, structure, and duration to our current 4-day TOGAF courses (focused on TOGAF 9 “Certified” prep), including attendees at courses provided by other training companies that contracted our instructor to lead their TOGAF® 9 training courses (courses delivered on behalf of other training companies were conducted in Doug’s typical lecture and delivery style, and used a very similar set of course materials licensed from The Open Group®, but were not 100% identical due to some variations in editing, sequencing, and exercises). The testimonials shown reflect attendee experiences in both course delivery formats: virtual online (live) as well as onsite face-to-face. Several of the testimonials shown are from public “Recommendations” that can be seen on Doug’s LinkedIn profile (LinkedIn login may be required to view the “Recommendations” section of the profile).

Supporting information and general expectations:

While the positive experiences described in the testimonials are merely the opinions of individuals, these experiences are consistent with aggregate instructor evaluation ratings from the entire population that attended similar courses led by our instructor. Our instructor has received consistently strong positive evaluation ratings from hundreds of attendees across dozens of courses focused on TOGAF 9 training and cert prep since 2010 (including both virtual and face-to-face formats). His average instructor evaluation rating (across all attendees) is a very high 4.5+/5.0 across all attendee evaluations, (including some evaluations that were normalized to the most commonly used 5 point scale). Course to course variation around this average is minimal (typically 4.5 +/- 0.3). The response rate (percentage of attendees submitting evaluations) is estimated to be over 90%. While the specific instructor evaluation questions varied somewhat over this period of several years, the rating questions commonly addressed instructor knowledge, handling of questions, use of examples, and general learning facilitation. Attendees at these courses were from many industries (including financial, healthcare, telecommunications, media, IT solution / technology providers, and government), and had highly varied roles/backgrounds (including business analysts, business relationship managers, project/portfolio managers, solution sales reps, enterprise and solution architects, application/data/infrastructure architects, technical domain specialists, IT operations/service management, systems/software engineering, and more).

Our course is designed to convey and reenforce knowledge and understanding of TOGAF® 9, and to enable attendees that want to pass the TOGAF® 9 Level 1 + 2 “Certified” certification exams. While we believe that a very high percentage of attendees can be successful in passing their certification exams, the ability of any given attendee to pass their certification exam(s), or to understand and/or retain the body of knowledge the course provides, is related to a number of factors that are beyond our control, including the attendee’s attendance and attentiveness throughout the course, aptitude, background, English language proficiency, and willingness to engage in an appropriate amount of offline self-study and review of the training materials prior to sitting the certification exam(s).
More On Exam Results Feedback...

Since attendees at our instructor’s past courses scheduled their TOGAF® certification exams independently after the course, our insight on actual success rates is limited to what attendees have voluntarily reported to him after their exam experience. Less than 25% of past attendees have provided post-course feedback to our instructor on their cert exam experience; therefore, we cannot provide any definitive statistics on actual TOGAF® cert exam pass rates from past cert prep course attendees taught by our instructor. With that caveat in mind, we can offer a few observations:

  • Several dozen past attendees of cert prep courses taught by our instructor are known to have passed their “Certified” exams either through voluntary feedback from the attendee (including those providing testimonials shown on our site), or through their choice to have their certification status displayed publicly in The Open Group® registry of certified people.
  • In one typical cert prep course, where 80% of the attendees (9 of 11) reported their exam experience and results to our instructor (an unusually high voluntary reporting percentage), 100% of the reporting attendees passed their TOGAF® “Certified” exams on first attempt.
  • In past courses taught by our instructor, a substantial majority of attendees were able to achieve a passing score on the L1/L2 practice exams conducted near the end of the course; this reflects a generally high level of in-class learning success given the large volume of new material covered and the lack of additional post-course self-study, refresh, and review that is recommended prior to taking the actual cert exams.
  • Across all past cert prep courses, only 2 attendees have reported to our instructor that they did not pass their exams on first attempt (primarily due to ESL-related issues), which represents less than 2% of those believed to have pursued certification (again, since the voluntary reporting of exam results by attendees is limited, we cannot derive pass rate conclusions from this data, other than to say that cases of exam failure known to us are very rare).
